All Power of Attorney registrations and new accounts with Power of Attorney are processed at our Bradford Office. On receipt of your documents they will be reviewed and we will use our electronic verification system to verify the Attorney(s). If this is successful, that’s all we need to do. However in certain cases (for example you are not listed on the electoral roll or you have recently moved address) we may need additional proof of identity and if we do we'll let you know.
Please be advised that there may be different requirements to open an ISA or operate an ISA as an Attorney. The requirements are set by HMRC and are relevant to the type of Power of Attorney document being registered. Please contact our specialist team for more information.

If you’re applying in person at a Yorkshire Building Society branch or agency we’ll need to see one proof of name document and one proof of address document and these must be the original documents.
If you’re applying by post we will need to see a third ID document. This can be either a proof of name or a proof of address document. Originals or copies are acceptable.
See our acceptable ID list below.
Please note: If you’re posting documents which have a photo or signature on them please send copies and not the originals. Also, do not send valuable documents through the post. All original documents will be returned to you as soon as possible
Our ‘Identification Requirements’ factsheet details the types of identification we accept and how recent they must be.
There are certain exceptions that we can make for the Power of Attorney accounts. They are:
1) If the donor has only recently moved into a care home, ID at their previous address can be accepted providing that this address matches that on the Power of Attorney.
2) ID can be taken for the donor that shows the address of the attorney/ies or deputy/ies. It must however stipulate that it is for the donor.
The donor can confirm the document is genuine providing they’re still able to make their own decisions.
If the donor has lost mental capacity then they would not be able to certify the document. In such circumstances we accept copies that have been certified by a bank/building society employee, solicitor, accountant, commissioner for oaths or an independent financial adviser. The person certifying the documents may charge a fee; please check with them first.
Please note, we are unable to accept documents which have been certified by a family member or a named attorney.
